Here is an overview of the goals of silent sustained independent reading.
This file is the actual contract for GENERAL LITERATURE Raft projects. It includes the rubric and the preparation guidelines for your presentation.
This file is for a mid point check.
This fourth file is a RAFT peer evaluation form. We will use these quarterly for feedback.
This fifth file is the Genre of the Month packet for ADVANCED literature students. A copy of the RAFT/BOOK Talk rubric is included, and so is a comprehensive, sample cover page. All R.A.F.T PROJECTS must be accompanied by the cover page. Book Talks DO NOT need a cover page as you will be sharing ALL of the information orally with me and with your peers. You may use the format of the cover page in preparation of your book talk to be sure you include all necessary components in your presentation.

All students in ALL classes will complete either MONTHLY (ADVANCED) or QUARTERLY (GENERAL) Independent Reading Assignments. All reading materials will be independently selected and will require parental permission (signature) for choice. I will post some sites to help with selection of materials, and I have several choices available at school (in my classroom & in our library). At this time, I am requesting that students steer away from any popular novels that have recently been turned into movies because there are SO MANY OTHER choices available. To the left, you will find the independent reading contract packets for both advanced and general literature classes; students will receive paper copies in class. Students will complete R.A.F.T. projects/presentations in lieu of book reports or other assessments. R.A.F.T. procedures will be discussed in class.
Some Suggestions for Books-- (NOTE: These sites do not necessarily reflect MY own personal beliefs. I am providing the links to sites that list popular/award-winning juvenile literature. I cannot preview ALL site-recommended books. I also cannot control the wording or views expressed within websites OUTSIDE OF MY OWN!!
