Reading like a reader & reading like a writer:
As we complete poetry-themed "Bell Ringers", and guided close reading of a variety of poems and portions of poems, we will identify poetic elements and sound devices in mentor texts, and we will practice using a variety of these elements in our own writing. Additionally, we will be using student-led Socratic Seminar discussions in order to discuss the poems in terms of possible themes and meanings intended by the poet(s).
Throughout the multiple readings, we will investigate stated and implied themes, direct and indirect characterization, and a host of other elements of poems.
