Your end goal is to create a story board that visually depicts what happened in each stanza of a narrative poem or a ballad. You should work with your partner to complete the questions within the packet that ask you to analyze the characterization of major and minor characters as well as the conflict(s) that weave through the story line. After you complete an independent close reading and mark the text, you will share your findings with a partner. We will discuss the findings and complete some of the characterization portion together as a model.
Questions to ask yourself: How is the poet using imagery to set the mood? How does the poet's use of similes & metaphors help you to visualize what is going on in the poem? What sound devices work within the poem to move the story along? What do you know about the setting and the historical context through context clues? What traits of the characters can you identify that have been directly stated or implied? Guided lesson for analyzing narrative poetry & a possible independent assessment
